Volunteer Opportunities

We love making new friends during our events so come on out and volunteer! Our Kiwanians are super friendly and appreciative. When you think of all the local charities you will be supporting, you can see this is a great way to spend a few hours! And…you eat free at the Taste on Saturday during the main event! We know you have a talent we can use on our Volunteer Needs List:

Volunteers are needed prior to the event and throughout the morning on
Saturday, November 2nd:

Pre-event:
-Preparing race materials on Friday for registration at Gordon Biersch
-Helping with Facebook page and Twitter for the race
-Securing prizes

During and after the event:
-Taste set up and/or breakdown
-Marshalls
-Water stations
-Monitoring crowds
-Setting up the Taste area
-Registration
-Signage for event
-Tot Trot monitors
-Video taping/editing events

Taste of Town Center 5K

Taste of Town Center 5K Race pays tribute to military veterans of the Hampton Roads area. In addition, the Town Center Kiwanis Club raises tens of thousands of dollars for local children’s charities such as CHKD, Special Olympics, Seton Youth Shelters, and many more. Every Veteran’s Day week, hundreds of runners participate in our 5K Race. Additionally, kids 6 years and younger participate in our 100 – yard Tot Trot. The crown jewel of the event is the Taste of Town Center following the race. Many of the Town Center area restaurants provide samples of their excellent cuisine to the race participants and their families. This year the Taste of Town Center will be held at Gordon Biersch!

The 2013 Race represents the 19th year of this event and its eighth year at Town Center. This event is held this year to honor the memory of Donald “Don” Clark,known as “the protector of the sand” for his efforts on behalf of the City of Virginia Beach and its beaches. Don had a long record of supporting our comminity and the legal profession and was often spotted on his daily walks around the Town Center!

The day’s events will feature a 5K Race, a 100-yard Tot Trot – for young children, and Post Race Celebration with food, music and entertainment. Pick your favorite Town Center restaurant, and you will probably enjoy their signature specialty included in your race registration!

Then there is the competitive spirit of corporate teams -complete with company banners, shirts, and hats, all trying to outdo the rest to capture the coveted Corporate Team Awards for the largest, fastest and most creatively attired teams. If you are a corporate sponsor, your sponsorship could even include registration for your team! Runners and those who just like to have fun, talk this one up to your management team! We will brand you like none other!

A Taste of Town Center

There is no other race like it on the southeastern coast with the Taste of Town Center 5K post-race party, included in your registration. Bring the family and hang out to eat signature favorites. In the past, we’ve had great tastings from Macaroni Grill, P.F. Chang’s, McCormick and Schmick’s, Max and Erma’s, Keagan’s, BRAVO, California Pizza Kitchen, Red Star Tavern, Smokey Bones, Simply Fresh, and Forbidden City! This year the Taste will be held at Gordon Biersch.
